Jennifer Welch-Babidge, Soprano
JENNIFER WELCH-BABIDGE’s engagements this season include Leïla in Les Pêcheurs de Perles with Opera Carolina, Norina in Don Pasquale with Houston Grand Opera, Susanna in Le Nozze di Figaro in Utah, and Marzelline in Fidelio at the Met. The North Carolina native, a winner of the Met’s 1997 National Council Auditions and graduate of the company’s Lindemann Young Artist Development Program, made her debut here in 1998. Her Met roles include Valencienne in The Merry Widow, Blondchen in Die Entführung aus dem Serail, Freia in Das Rheingold, and Olympia in Les Contes d’Hoffmann. Notable recent engagements include the title role of Lucia di Lammermoor with New York City Opera and Opera Theatre of St. Louis, Blondchen with San Francisco Opera, Constanze in Die Entführung with Opera Theatre of St. Louis, Gilda in Rigoletto with Opera Colorado, Violetta in La Traviata with Opera Pacific, and Adele in Die Fledermaus at Japan’s Saito Kinen Festival.
