THIS SEASON Le Nozze di Figaro, Elektra, Hansel and Gretel, Tosca and Lulu at the Met, Tosca at Munich’s Bavarian State Opera, his debut with the Boston Symphony Orchestra, and La Traviata, Franz Schmidt’s Notre Dame, Falstaff, Der Rosenkavalier, Salome, Il Trovatore, Tosca and Wagner’s Ring cycle at Dresden’s Semperoper.

PREVIOUS MET APPEARANCES Simon Boccanegra, Die Ägyptische Helena, Turandot, and Don Carlo (debut 2005).

CAREER HIGHLIGHTS A frequent guest of the Vienna State Opera, Munich’s Bavarian State Opera, Deutsche Oper, and Deutsche Staatsoper Berlin (Unter den Linden); he made his Salzburg Festival debut in 2003 leading Strauss’s Die Liebe der Danae (returning the following season for Die Ägyptische Helena) and his American debut with the Lyric Opera of Chicago leading Rigoletto. Also appears regularly with the Orchestre de Paris, Bayerischer Radio Symphony, Munich Philharmonic, and Rome’s Santa Cecilia Orchestra. He has been General Music Director of the Dresden Staatskapelle and Semperoper since 2007 and Chief Conductor of the Vienna Symphony since 2004. In 2010 he becomes Music Director of Sapporo, Japan’s, Pacific Music Festival.
