The Characters

Timur (bass) - Father of the Unknown Prince, Calaf. A former King, robbed of his throne by his enemies, he is now an old man wandering in exile. Only one servant remains faithful to him: the slave girl Lił.
Calaf (tenor) - the Unknown Prince who attempts to win the hand of Turandot. He is smitten with the dangerously beautiful princess Turandot.
Lił (soprano) - Timur's slave, a beautiful young girl. She is in love with Prince Calaf, but he does not realize the depth of her feelings for him.
Turandot (soprano) - Princess of China, daughter of the Emperor, a cruel but beautiful woman. She refuses to marry anyone but the man who can answer her three riddles. All suitors who fail will be put to death.
Ping (baritone) - China's Grand Chancellor. Together with Pang and Pong he is responsible for preparing the funerals of the princes who cannot answer Turandot's riddles.
Pang (tenor) - The General Purveyor.
Pong (tenor) - The court's chief Cook.
The Prince of Persia (baritone) - One of Turandot's many unsuccessful suitors.
Mandarin (baritone) - An official in charge of announcing all of the emperor's edicts.
