The Characters
Luisa (soprano) - Daughter of the old soldier, Miller. She is in love with Carlo, who is actually Rodolfo.
Duchess Federica (mezzo-soprano) - A widow who hopes to marry Rodolfo, whom she has loved since childhood.
Rodolfo (tenor) - Son of Count Walter. He is in love with Luisa, but betrothed to Duchess Federica.
Miller (baritone) - An old soldier. Luisa's father.
Wurm (bass) - Works for Count Walter and loves Luisa, hoping to marry her.
Count Walter (bass) - Rodolfo's father. He wants Rodolfo to marry Duchess Federica.
